On today’s show, we continue exploring excerpts from the Hadith, on the prayer, but focusing on the significance and obligation of the Friday prayer for Muslims, and how it plays a crucial role in nurturing a deeper relationship with Allah.

“[…] A prayer is also addressed in the respite between the two sajdahs [prostration].

Ibn 'Abbās said, The Messenger of Allāh, peace and blessings of Allāh be on Him, used to say between the two sajdahs [prostration]: ‘O Allāh! Forgive me and have mercy on me and guide me and grant me security and grant me sustenance.’ […] Prayers are also offered in the sitting position.

'Ā'ishah reported that The Messenger of Allāh, peace and blessings of Allāh be on Him, used to say in his prayers: ‘O Allāh! I seek refuge in Thee from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in Thee from the tribulation of al-Masīh al-Dajjāl (the Anti-Christ), and I seek refuge in Thee from the trials of life and the trials of death; O Allāh! I seek refuge in Thee from sins and from being in debt.’ […]

[…] The service ends with taslīm [the recitation of ‘Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah’ (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah). […]”

“‘O you who believe! When the call is given for prayer on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allāh and leave off business’.

It is reported on the authority of Zuhrī, When the Mu'adhdhin gives a call for prayer on Friday, and there is one who is journeying, it is incumbent on him that he should attend.

Abu-l-Ja'd said, The Messenger of Allāh, peace and blessings of Allāh be on Him, said: ‘Whoever omits three Friday services making light of it, Allāh sets a seal on his heart.’

Ibn 'Umar said, A wife of 'Umar used to attend the morning and 'Ishā' prayers in congregation in the mosque. It was said to her, Why dost thou go forth and thou knowest that ' Umar does not like this and is averse (to it). She said, What prevents him from prohibiting me? He said, What prevents him is the saying of the Messenger of Allāh: ‘Do not prohibit the handmaids of Allāh from attending the mosques of Allāh.’ […]”
