After they lay their eggs, caregivers wait for them to leave the nest. While they are gone, the real eggs are removed for supervised incubation and replaced by hi-tech lookalikes. The smart devices mimic the temperature and sounds of developing chicks. The babies are returned to the nest one day after they hatch and receive regular health checks until they are two years old.
